Comedy Promotes Values:

 

According to Henri Bergson, comedy promotes social and moral values because we laugh at antisocial and anti-moral behaviors. One scenario of this can be racism. If someone came upon a Muslim man with his turban, someone would immediately make 911 jokes or racist jokes towards the woman's ethnicity or her country. People would find it funny because they would use a Muslim accent to make these jokes and that is very racist. This is an antisocial and anti-moral behavior and it shows that not doing this and not being racist promotes social and moral values.

Friendship:

The Philosopher Aristotle introduced the idea of "Perfect Friendship". The meaning of this term is being friends with someone that has a similar personality as you and the relationship between these people is only for pleasantness, not for utility. I am very thankful for having this kind of friendship with my best friend Riya. Riya and I have similar personalities where our favorite food is Sushi, we both hate swimming, and both of us always put others before us gladly. In our relationship there is no utility. We are also friends because we find each others company pleasant, we like hanging out with each other and never get bored of each other. Once when we were little we were on a camping trip with a bunch of other classmates, during that time everyone hung out with their friends. Everyone talked to each other but when I was talking to Riya we immediately became best friends because we disliked the same things and admired the same things. Our similar personality shows that we have the :Perfect Friendship".

Types of Friendships

Pleasantness:

This kind of friendship is when one person is friends with another person because they enjoy each others company and they have similar personalities.An example of this friendship is shown in the movie Harry Potter by the characters Ron and Harry. Ron and Harry are always hanging out together because they are both courageous and nice, they aren't mean and they enjoy each others company and go on adventures together. They don't use each other in any way and are honest with each other.

 Perfect Friendship:

This kind of friendship is when two or more people have known each other for a really long time and are really goof friends that get along. These people do daily activities together and are pleasantly with each other. An example of Perfect friendship is the show Pretty Little Liars with the characters Hannah , Aria, Spencer, and Emily. These Girls are best friends that go through everything together and never let any bad things they experience get in the way of each others friendship. They have a "Perfect Friendship" because they don't use each other for utility. They all are alike which  makes them better friends and they spend most of their time together.

Utility: 

This kind of friendship is when a person is friends with someone because of their utility, in other words they want to use them for resources. One example of this friendship is showed in my favorite T.V. show Revenge. In this show the main character named Emily Thorne is only friends with this man named Nolan Ross because he is the most experienced hacker and he could come in handy anytime while she is taking revenge from her neighbors. Emily uses Nolan to control computer systems and hack into secured databases. She only uses Nolan for his resources and his power she is not really friends with him since she only goes to him when she needs something.

Harry Potter House Assignment

I believe that I would be assigned to the house of Hufferpuff by the Sorting hat. I believe I should be in this house because I am loyal and patient. I am always honest people and I am always up for letting people have a second chance when they make a mistake that affects me.I don't belong to Griffindor  because I am not that brave I fear somethings. I can't be in Ravenclaw because I don't have a ready mind, I always need to learn and do things nothing is set in my mind. I can't be a Slytherin because I care more about people and if time came to hurt them to get my motives I would not do that. I think I belong to Hufferpuff because of my loyalty and integrity. When I was little one time my friend asked me how she looked, as a friend I would say she looked great but as a real friend I would let her know that what she was wearing did not look right, even in other situations with my family I would always be honest about my feelings and thoughts. Being loyal ad honest is one of many qualities I contain from the house Huferpuff. I am also patient. I always wait for the right time to do things and never rush into things. I am patient because I always wait for the best to come out I always help my classmates if they need help before starting my own work because they are having a hard time. I always let other people before me and wait in line for something if I have to. Patience is also a quality of Hufferpuff that I contain.

A wrinkle in Kierkegaard's stages of life concept is illustrated in the movie The Dark Knight. In the movie, the aesthete is the Joker who thinks he is completely free but Batman who is in the ethical stage believes the Joker is being controlled by their impulses and never really chooses, so is not free at all. Jokers is always after what he wants and thinks it makes him happy but his selfishness to show the Gotham city the bad and destroying peoples life is not letting him live freely. Batman is living freely because he commits to saving Gotham from whatever danger coming at them, He has freedom because he made a thoughtful choice and is committing to it. Joker doesn't commit to anything except his own selfishness, for example when he kills his own members after the bank robbery. This is why an aesthete never doesn't experience true freedom

            A personal anecdote that is related to me in terms of the categorical imperative is when in 5th grade I stood up for a girl who was being bullied because she was new to the school. The bullies were my classmates who picked on the girl from the way she dressed to the way she talked when she had to present something to the class as an class assignment. Watching this everyday and knowing it was wrong made me guiltier by the day. I had to take a stand against it. The way I handled is by talking to her, being with her constantly and telling my friends to be friends with her too, this way she wouldn't be bothered. This stopped the situation without violence or hatred soon the bullies forgot about her and moved on and from that I earned a new best friend. This is related to the categorical imperative because if I was in her situation I would want someone to stand up for me and accept me that way I won't be furthered bullied.

 Aristotle Character Types

          Aristotle created may character types that we still use today in he real world.

Virtuous character is a person who knows the right thing to do, and does it. They gladly decide the right action. In my world an example of virtuous would be my Mom. My mom is the most selfless person I know in my world. She always puts me and my siblings ahead of me. She is virtuous character because she knows its right for her to put her kids before herself and she gladly does it, no matter what the situation is. Although there are many examples where my mom showed her virtuous character the one that stuck out to me the most is when she gets back from work and always asks her kids what they want to eat, she has had a long day therefore she still thinks about us before her, which is the right to do.


A continent character knows the right decision, but struggles against desire.  An example of a continent character in my world would be my sister. When I am in trouble she has to stand up for me and this is the right decision because it is her responsibility as an older sister to watch over me. She struggles against it because she also wants to get me in trouble and learn from my mistakes. At the end she still sticks up for me which is right but she struggles against it.



A incontinent character is able to make the right decision but suffers from weakness or will, desire overcomes them. In the novel Never fall down a young character Yong is incontinent because he knew in times of trouble he had to save his sister from the Khmer rouge but he didn't do it and struggles because he was worried about his own life.He knew it was right to save her but he struggled because he didn't want to put his own life in danger.

The Book

A vicious character knows that the decision is morally wrong and desires the same. A character that is vicious is General Wantabe, a Japanese commander in charge of a POW camp in japan during the World War II. He treated American prisoners very harshly and brutally when it was wrong and against the rules. He still continued to torture the American soldiers held as prisoners.

Summer 2014

The beginning of summer is always a start of something new and exciting. Schools come to a close and all of a sudden you have a lot of time on your hands to do anything you feel like doing. This summer was a laid back summer for me and family but there were some opportunities to go out and have fun. Of course the beach was a automatic destination we thought of on a hot day to go and relax. Although this beach visit was unexpected it turned out to be quite fun.

This summer I also got to spend some quality time with my sister. Being in college and staying there throughout the school year would never give us a chance to meet, but summer brings the excitement to spend time with her. This summer we spent some time at the Hopkinton Park. There we followed some trails and had a picnic and in the evening we relaxed and had a fun competition of badminton. I captured a picture of us so that i would remember this day and how much fun we had together.

Summer 2014 also brought tragedies to the town of Lowell and our country as a whole.

On July 10  3 floor apartment building caught on fire in the town of Lowell. This tragedy consumed the lives of four adults and three children. This fire erupted on the third floor, thankfully the firefighters made it on time to prevent further damage to the area around this location.

Market Basket

Through out the summer another news breaking story hit the shelves. Market Basket the grocery serving store to many states had internal issues with co-workers making the grocery's unavailable to the public. Although this issue was internal arguments it affected the lives of many individuals. it left most people with no jobs including some of my friends. This issues does seem to be solved out by now but it still made a huge difference in the lives of many this summer.
